Gym Bag Essentials

Whether you’re in the gym for a quick bit of cardio or you’re pumping iron for 90 minutes, its good to come organized with all the items you’ll need while in the gym and afterwards.

Here’s a peek into what a pack in my gym bag on a typical day….

Gym Bag

I currently carry a large pink Victoria Secret’s tote (that’s meant for the beach) because the thing is huge and has very convenient pockets so I don’t lose my phone, keys, and other smaller items.

For true gym rats, I’d recommend a sportier bag much like this one from UnderArmour. It’s got separate spaces for smelly gym shoes and wet shower flip flops and its small size doesn’t take up a lot of space.

Deodorant

This is a no brainer and should obviously be the first thing you throw into your bag. I use Tom’s of Main Natural Aluminum Free deodorant because it uses no artificial fragrances or preservatives. I have told so many people to switch to natural deodorants. Aluminum has been linked to a number of health issues such as breast cancer, Alzheimer’s disease, bone disorders, and kidney problems. Using an aluminum free deodorant lowers your risk of these health issues.

Body Wash

If you’re showering at the gym, a great body wash is Dr. Bronner’s Pure Castile Liquid Soaps. I use the Tea Tree Oil one. Made with organic and certified fair trade ingredients, this stuff is a 100% better than the popular mass marketed body washes and soaps in the market. Also, tea tree oil is great for acne and bacterial infections on the skin.

 Fuel

Some form of protein. Usually a protein bar with less than 10 grams of fat is ideal. I love RISE vegan protein bars. The Almond Honey bars are my favorite because they are gluten free, have 20 grams of protein and consist of just 3 ingredients. Yeah that’s right. Just 3 ingredients. Can’t get much better than that when having a protein bar on the go. Also, if you’re not a fan of protein bars, a banana and some rice cakes are great post workout.

Water Bottle

It’s super important to hydrate while working out. I always carry my Drop Bottle not only because it looks great but I like to infuse fruits like strawberries, oranges, lemon, and even sometimes mint in it to give me a little taste of natural sugar while I work out. It’s also much tastier than just drinking plain old water and it’s good for you too!
